Distance Education Borrowing

Some students and faculty at Indiana University can have books delivered from IU Bloomington Libraries and articles from anywhere. You qualify for distance education borrowing if you are currently enrolled or working for Indiana University and meet one of the criteria below:

  • You are a distance education student living away from the Bloomington area
  • You are a graduate student doing research or completing a dissertation
  • You are an undergraduate student participating in programs away from campus
  • You are a faculty member on sabbatical and away from campus

Your first step in receiving delivered materials is to request a Distance Education ID.

Requesting Books and Articles

Only books owned by the IU Bloomington Libraries will be sent. Books held at other IU campus libraries are not eligible for this service.

Once you have submitted your request for a distance education ID and received your library barcode, you can use IUCAT (our online catalog) to find books owned by IU Bloomington Libraries. Articles can be delivered from any database we subscribe to.

To request books and articles be delivered, you will need to use our Document Delivery Service (DDS) Request form. DDS is part of our InterLibrary Loan program. To access this service, you will need to have your university account credentials ready for login. All delivery requests must be made via the Distance Education Service Request form.
