Special Formats & Archives

IU Libraries' collections feature materials in a range of media and archival formats. Some materials and special collections can be accessed only in designated Libraries facilities, and some require special appointments to view.

Located on the Wells Library ground floor, IU Libraries Moving Image Archive is one of the world’s largest educational film and video collections with materials in formats such as 8mm, 16mm, VHS, DVD, and more.

Located in the Scholars Commons on the first floor of Wells Library East Tower, the Reference Reading Room is where patrons can access periodicals, atlases, and other materials.

Patrons can schedule appointments to view materials from IU's prestigious rare books and manuscripts library in the Lilly Library Reading Room.

Patrons can explore the history and culture of Indiana University through digital collections and rare archival materials.

Located on the second floor of Wells Library, the largest map collection in Indiana can be viewed by appointment.

The Ruth Lilly ALF is a modern and secure climate-controlled book and object repository that houses many materials in the IU Libraries Collection.

Several IU Libraries house materials in microfilm, microfiche, and other microform holdings.
