Visitors to the Libraries may request a Library Guest Account to allow them full access from inside the IU Bloomington Libraries to online databases, electronic books, electronic journals and the general resources of the Internet. These accounts are free and are valid for up to 20 days.
To obtain a Library Guest Account, stop at the circulation desk in the Wells Library Scholars Commons (first floor of the East Tower). Present a photo ID and ask for a Library Guest Account.
The Library Guest Account can be used on any library-owned computer in the Wells Library and in the branch libraries. In the Wells Library, library-owned workstations can be found in the Scholars' Commons on the first floor of the East Tower, the Government Information, Maps, and Microform Services Department on the second floor, and on floors 4 through 10 of the Wells Library East Tower. Library Guest Accounts cannot be used in the Learning Commons (on the first floor of the West Tower of the Wells Library), or on computers that are part of the Student Technology Clusters, including those in branch libraries. Also, the Library Guest Account cannot be used to connect from computers off-campus. For information about connecting to library wi-fi using a personal laptop or mobile device, see Wireless Access for Visitors.
Offering this network access fulfills our commitment to the Federal Depository Library Program as it allows citizens to easily access electronic government information.
Priority use of library workstations is for students, faculty and staff of Indiana University. Non-affiliated users with Library Guest Accounts may be asked to relinquish the workstations to the priority users.
Please note our policy on Appropriate Use of Public Access Computers.
To print in the IU Bloomington Libraries, visitors unaffiliated with IUB must obtain a Library Guest Account as described above; for a small fee, you may obtain a print card at this time as well. The print card can be used for regular 8.5" x 11" printing within the IU Bloomington Libraries. Contact Access Services with any questions about obtaining a print card.
