(He/him/his)
Senior Serials Cataloger

Herman B Wells Library E350

(812) 855-9850

In his role as Slavic serials cataloger, Jeremiah Saxton helps maintain IU Libraries’ database of titles (IUCAT), specifically those relating to journals, trade books, and magazines that come out of Eastern Europe and any other country that uses a Cyrillic alphabet.

Jeremiah’s interests are varied and diverse. His background includes music (from high school), language and radios (from the Marine Corps) history, philosophy, sociology, and anthropology (from his undergraduate minor), education and language acquisition (from his major), as well as fashion, collecting, and fiber arts (from personal dabbling). One field of research that particularly interests him is Cold War propaganda and how almost 80 years of its influence has impacted the cultures of the United States and Russia.

Immediately after high school, Jeremiah joined the Marine Corps as a Russian cryptologic linguist. Afterwards, he came to IU and spent three years working towards a B.S. in foreign language education with a minor in religious studies. Following that he joined The Bloomington Project School, where he worked as a teaching assistant as well as teaching English as a new language and third-grade math. After two years at the Project School, he joined IU Libraries.

Jeremiah says, “There's something about cataloging that I really enjoy. I get to use my language skills to hunt down hard to find information and collate it all into one pristine bibliographic record. I've finally found a job that makes me feel rewarded simply by doing it. I honestly love this position and I'm so glad I was given this opportunity.”
