Haley Janelle Norris is the Open Education Librarian at Indiana University Bloomington. Her work primarily focuses on the adoption, adaption, and development of open educational materials (OER). This takes form in facilitating the Course Material Fellowship Program. The program’s purpose is to eliminate textbook costs for students while giving faculty academic flexibility to tailor their materials to their learning objectives and pedagogical preferences. Haley also provides consultations and helps faculty who want to shift to zero-cost course materials but do not have time to participate in the fellowship. This includes doing outreach and advocating for equitable course materials.

Her current research interests center around the intersections between socioeconomic access, diversity, and student belonging within course material creation. Before being the Open Education Librarian, Haley was a Diversity Resident for IU Libraries Scholarly Communication department. She continues to be actively involved in the support committee for the current diversity residents, IU Libraries’ Diversity Committee, and the facilitator for IU Libraries’ BIPOC Library Workers Affinity Group.

Haley received her education at Indiana University Bloomington, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in history in 2019 and a Master of Library Science in 2021.
