As Library Systems Analyst/Programmer and Head of Database Management, Spencer Anspach is responsible for managing large quantities of bibliographic data as they are loaded into the library database (IUCAT), as they are corrected and maintained within the system, and as they are extracted, analyzed, and reported out from the system. More generally, he provides support and expertise across the IU Libraries systemwide, on a variety of technical aspects of the enterprise library management system and its data. His areas of expertise include bibliographic metadata extraction, manipulation, normalization, conversion, correction, and analysis; additionally, he has expertise in Perl and SQL.

Spencer speaks to library audiences about issues related to library database management, including a talk on “Strengthening Knowledge Connections: Authority Control in Library Catalogs, Present and Future” at the Indiana Library Federation Annual Conference in 2015. He received his MLS from Indiana University, and his BA in German from Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne.
