Far Away, So Close: Indiana and El Salvador, Elections and Immigration Policy
Designed as a companion to the Kelley School’s 2022 Common Read book, The Far Away Brothers: Two Young Migrants and the Making of an American Life, the exhibition “Far Away, So Close” is meant to be both global and local, historical and contemporary. Using materials from the papers of former U.S. Senator from Indiana Richard G. Lugar, it highlights the 1980s civil war in El Salvador, U.S. foreign policy on El Salvador and Central America, the role of elections and election observers, and Congress’s discussions on U.S. immigration policy.
