About
John Tweedie reports to the Vice Chancellor for Finance and serves in two key campus roles: Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance for IU Libraries (since 2022) and member of the Financial Planning and Analysis team, where he develops financial analysis dashboards and tools for the campus.
In his IU Libraries role, John is responsible for:
- Advising the Deans on strategic financial decisions
- Delivering executive-level reporting to support timely, informed choices
- Directing Libraries Financial Services operations
- Overseeing financial operations for IU Press
- Serving as the Dean’s liaison to Libraries HR
Originally from England, John began his finance career with a CPA firm in the United Kingdom, working in the audit division. He joined Indiana University in 2002 and has since held a range of leadership positions, including three years as Business Manager for IU Athletics and two years in the Controller’s Office as Lead Accounting Consultant for IU Auxiliary and Support Units.
For 15 years, John served as Senior Director of Administration and Finance for the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering. During his tenure, he played a central role in the school’s strategic growth, guiding financial planning as the school tripled in size through program expansion, the merger with SLIS, and the creation of the Intelligent Systems Engineering department. In addition, he served as Human Resources Business Partner for a decade, gaining a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities at the intersection of HR and Finance.
John brings extensive expertise in financial planning and management for large organizations at IU. His strengths include building complex financial models to evaluate strategic options and providing structure for evolving initiatives. At Luddy, he authored more than 30 policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
He holds an active Indiana CPA license, is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and is certified as a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
Outside of work, John enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters, and their dog, Bear. On weekends, he can often be found playing lead guitar at local music venues with his classic rock band, 45 Drive.
