Rooms for Groups, Study or Collaboration

Several libraries across campus offer group study spaces, collaboration rooms and quiet study spaces for use by students, faculty and staff. Some rooms may be reserved in advance; others are first-come, first-served

Wells Library 

  • Scholars Commons -  East Tower 1st Floor

    • Scholars Commons consultation rooms may be reserved by IUB faculty, staff, and graduate students at least 24 hours in advance, Monday - Friday. If not reserved, and all day Saturday and Sunday, rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis to groups or individuals.
    • Four consultation rooms have capacity for 8 people, conference table, and collaborative technology; three rooms have capacity for 4 people, casual seating, and a coffee table; one room has capacity for 5 people, conference table, and collaborative technology.
    • Rooms are intended for collaborative group study, not for course instruction, office hours, or events. Complete guidelines are available via our booking policies statement or within the booking system.
    • Reserve a Scholars Commons consultation room.
  • Media Services - Ground Floor

    • Media rooms may be reserved by Bloomington faculty, graduate students and staff Monday-Thursday, 8a-10p, and Friday 8a-5p during academic terms. First-come, first-served outside reservation hours.
    • Four rooms have capacity for up to 5 people, conference table, whiteboard, monitor, computer workstation with RCA/composite/HDMI/VGA connectivity and the capacity for Blu-Ray, DVD and VHS playback.
    • Priority given to media-related projects and viewings.
    • Reserve a Media Room.
  • West Tower, 4th Floor: reservable during the fall and spring academic terms; first-come, first-served over the summer and during academic breaks.

    • Interview Room - May be reserved Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 9:00pm.
      The Interview Room is available to patrons looking for a small, private space to hold phone interviews or video conferences (Skype, Zoom, etc). The Interview Room includes a whiteboard and a single small table that fits one to two chairs on per side. No equipment or phone line provided. Wireless connectivity only. Must be reserved at least 24 hours in advance. First-come, first-served outside reservation hours. 

    • Four collaboration rooms (W417, W419, W421, and W423) - May be reserved seven days a week, 4 - 10p.
      Group study rooms include a whiteboard and a single small table that will accommodate two to five people. No equipment or phone line provided. Wireless connectivity only. Must be reserved at least 24 hours in advance. First-come, first-served outside reservation hours.

First-come, First-served Rooms

  • Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center Library - 275 N. Jordan, A113

    • Spaces may be reserved by students, faculty or staff for a variety of uses (meetings, lectures, discussions, office hours, film screenings) by contacting NMBCC library staff via email at bcclib at indiana dot edu.

      • One group study room furnished with an oval table, four chairs, a computer (no printing). Note: This room is not available during Summer 2018.
      • NMBCC Library also has an exhibit room (225 sq ft). This space features a picture hanging rail running about 12 inches below the ceiling along the top of the walls; there are three windows, facing out toward the stacks, with UV protective coating. When scheduling, please include any requests for additional tables, chairs, or other equipment, so NMBCC staff can coordinate with the Facilities Coordinator.
  • Wells Library

    • Grad Commons - East Tower, 8th Floor
      • Exclusively for the use of graduate students.
      • A quiet space intended to provide an environment to be productive and work.
    • Learning Commons - West Tower 1st Floor
      • First-come/first-served; groups have priority.
      • Eighteen group study rooms for approximately 2-6 people; most rooms include a computer and a large wall-mounted monitor that can project a laptop screen. In addition, a whiteboard and table are available.
    • West Tower - Floors 3 & 4
      • Collaboration rooms:

        • Equipped with a whiteboard and have a capacity for up to five people.
        • May not be used for course instruction or to hold office hours. Groups have priority.
        • 3rd floor: Nine collaboration rooms
        • 4th floor: Six collaboration rooms; four others may be booked in advance during certain periods, see above.
