Baker Street Irregulars
About the Collection
The archive of the Baker Street Irregulars holds the official records of the BSI and the papers of its members, who call themselves the Irregulars.
In 1934, Christopher Morley hosted a birthday party for Sherlock Holmes and inspired a literary society dedicated to the world’s first private consulting detective. Today, the BSI is devoted to keeping alive the memory of Sherlock Holmes and his biographer, Dr. John Watson. Members delight in playing "The Game," in which Holmes and Watson are treated as real people and the original 60 Holmes tales are historical adventures. While early Irregulars relegated Arthur Conan Doyle to the role of Dr. Watson’s “literary agent,” modern Irregulars also explore his life and its impact on the Holmes saga. BSI members publish scholarly and creative books and articles through the BSI Press and The Baker Street Journal. These publications offer insight into the Victorian world and the ongoing popularity of the world’s first, and most famous, consulting detective.
