Workshop: Designing Research-Based Writing Assignments

September 26th 2014 @ 1:00pm
Wells Library, E243

In this interactive workshop, participants will explore how key principles of assignment design can inform teaching that emphasizes research as a process of authentic inquiry and meaning-making. Assignment-related issues we will consider include: scale & feasibility, sequencing and timing small assignments that lead to a larger final product (scaffolding), disciplinary challenges, selection of information sources and search strategies, and assessment. Participants will have the opportunity in small groups to discuss and share feedback on their own research assignments. Librarians, Campus Writing Program staff, and experienced faculty will be on hand to provide resources and timely feedback as instructors revise their assignments.
