A. Michael Martinez wrote the song to honor their IAM Labor music project and band. Raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Martinez’s background includes ancestors from Laguna Pueblo, Ireland, and Spain. Among his various musical projects, he provided original songs – including the title cut – and lead guitar and/or vocal accompaniment to the CD unioNation™ Machinists Music Project. The unioNation™ project (, directed by Henry Bagwell, features musical union members and underscores the importance of unions for Native Americans, Hispanos, and Caucasian workers, the vast majority of whom hold blue collar jobs.
