Two New Apps for eBooks through IU Libraries

IU Libraries has access to millions of eBooks through IUCAT and other library databases. One quick way to find eBooks is to filter by eBook under the Format facet on the left side of the IUCAT search results page. 

When viewing eBooks through IU Libraries, you often have two options: Read Online or Download. Read Online opens the eBook in your browser, and you can read directly from the browser interface. You can also choose the Download option to read later when you are not connected to the internet. This requires some initial set up the first time you download an eBook, but it can be a great option for lightweight reading on the go. 
Due to the license agreements with the eBook vendors ProQuest and EBSCO, IU Libraries sometimes has limits on the number of allowable concurrent readers for certain titles. When viewing eBooks offline, this requires Digital Rights Management (DRM) enabled applications. ProQuest has the ProQuest Ebook Central app, and EBSCO uses the Thorium reader.

ProQuest offers one centralized database for you to find all the eBooks available through this one vendor. To use their app, you have to go through a couple of manual steps to authenticate your access through IU Libraries

While ProQuest's app has the same name as the database, eBooks available through EBSCO can be discovered through many different databases. They have partnered with Thorium as their application of choice as the eReader app to use when downloading eBooks from their platforms. On OneSearch, you can use filters to find Full Text eBooks to search across platforms.
