Rationale
The Herman B Wells Library is a destination for students, faculty, and researchers who use the resources and services in the building to accomplish their academic goals.  The activity within the Wells Library reflects the diversity within the academic community and requires that we balance the interests and needs of those using the building.

Policy
The Libraries are committed to meeting the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.  We will make every reasonable effort to provide access to collections and resources both in Wells Library and on the Internet, to people with disabilities.

  • Access to Building
    • From South Entrance: Use the ramp and automatic door at the cafeteria entrance (north of the parking lot). This entrance is available only during normal library services.

    • From Northeast Entrance: Use the electronic door that leads to the Wells Library lobby. For access to the ground floor, use the West Tower elevators.

    • From Northwest Entrance: Use the ramp across from the O'Neill School and enter the building to go to University Division. To enter the library from there, turn left and locate elevators.

  • Access to Library Collections:  Ask at the Circulation Desk in the East Tower for assistance with retrieval of materials from collections in the East and West towers.

  • Wheelchair Availability: The Wells Library has one manual (not power) wheelchair, which you may borrow for the duration of your visit to the library. It is available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved in advance. You must return the wheelchair before the East Tower closes (view Wells Library hours). Stop by the Wells Library circulation desk in the Scholars’ Commons, first floor of the East Tower, to inquire.

Policy questions should be directed to the IU Bloomington Libraries Administration Office, located on the second floor of Herman B Wells Library, West Tower, Room 234 (libadmin@indiana.edu, 812-855-3403).
