Indiana University Libraries Moving Image Archive Screening Room : Booking and Reservations

Moving Image Media Class Screenings
Due to its specialized technologies, the IULMIA SR prioritizes Indiana University courses where media viewing is central to instruction, particularly those utilizing legacy media formats and/or high-end digital technologies that are not available in standard classrooms.
Instructors may apply to use the IULMIA SR over the course of an entire semester or for individual classes/special event screenings. Three to four semester-long courses are selected per semester based on availability and demonstrated need for IULMIA SR capabilities.
- Class screenings are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis for current and upcoming semesters
- Requests must demonstrate a specific need for the IULMIA SR rather than a standard classroom
- Semester-long course requests must be submitted the semester prior
- One-off class requests must be submitted at least one month prior to the scheduled class
- Classes must have no more than 34 students (room capacity with tables and chairs)
- IU Libraries reserves the right to deny any requests
- Projection of 8mm or 16mm films
- Production courses that require 2K digital projection or high-end audio speakers
- Courses on the history of cinema technology and/or exhibition

- For semester-long courses, all media must be delivered to the IULMIA SR at least one month prior to the start of the semester
- For one-off classes or special event screenings, all media must be delivered to the IULMIA SR at least two months in advance of the scheduled date
- IULMIA SR will assist as able with the acquisition of media and any necessary rights
- Note: Any costs associated with the purchase, rental, licensing, or shipment of media will not be covered by the IULMIA SR.
- Courses primarily screening media from commercial streaming platforms (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) will not be accommodated
- Courses that do not center on media viewing will not be approved; courses that are exclusively lectures will not be accommodated
- The IULMIA SR can seat up to 34 students with tables and chairs. Classes larger than 34 students can not be accommodated
Archival Programming
The IULMIA SR specializes in the presentation of archival media from IULMIA and other archival repositories. The facility is uniquely equipped to display a variety of legacy media formats, with a particular emphasis on 16mm film. For information on the archival holdings of IULMIA, contact iulmia@iu.edu.
- Archival programming is scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis for current and upcoming semesters
- All requests for archival programming must be submitted at least two months prior to the scheduled event
- IU Libraries reserves the right to deny any requests

- All media must be delivered to the IULMIA SR at least one month prior to the scheduled event. The IULMIA SR will conduct a thorough inspection of all archival media prior to projection to ensure the safety of the archival media
- IULMIA SR will assist as able with the acquisition of media and any necessary rights with appropriate advanced notice.
- Note: Any costs associated with the purchase, rental, licensing, or shipment of media will not be covered by the IULMIA SR
Media-Related Hands-On Workshops
The IULMIA SR supports and encourages interactive workshops utilizing archival media and equipment for educational and creative purposes. Workshops must include direct engagement with media materials or equipment. For information on IULMIA staff facilitating a media-related hands-on workshop, contact iulmia@iu.edu.

- Experimental and creative uses of archival media
- Film and video handling and inspection techniques
- Analog film and video preservation practices
- Workshops are limited to 15 participants to ensure hands-on opportunities
- Workshops are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis for current and upcoming semesters
- All requests for workshops must be submitted at least two months prior to the scheduled event
- IU Libraries reserves the right to deny any requests
- The booker must meet (in person or via zoom) with the IULMIA SR at least one month prior to the scheduled event to discuss logistics
