The IU Libraries' buildings open this fall will allow reservation-only seating for studying. Some services are appointment only, and many operations have been modified to adjust to the global pandemic. The William & Gayle Cook Music Library will operate on a slightly different appointment-based system.
Fall 2020 library hours and services
We are still, and always, here to help
As the semester progresses, IU Libraries will constantly monitor the evolving health situation of our campus and community and then modify access to in-person services and spaces as needed. Each Library location will operate slightly differently this fall to meet the needs of its most directly connected campus communities. Use our directory to check hours and services before visiting any specific library location.
The Scholars' Commons reference desk is available through our Ask a Librarian chat and email (libref @ indiana . edu). You can also call the Scholars' Commons reference desk at 812-855-8028. If you seek in-depth research help or teaching support in your discipline use our subject specialists.
Using physical collections
Books and materials:
- Returned materials will be quarantined before processing. This will mean that materials will remain on accounts for several days after placing them in library book drops.
- Most library locations are unable to allow any kind of book or material browsing due to potential spread of COVID-19 on physical materials. Anyone touching materials on library shelves will sanitize before and after doing so. The East Tower stacks at Wells library are closed.
To use physical materials, IU Libraries offers Request Delivery. Library staff will collect items as requested by students and faculty. Pick up will be at your selected pick-up location. Faculty and graduate students with secure campus mail situations may be able to use Office Delivery services.
As the global pandemic continues, so does enhanced access to digital versions of IU Libraries print materials. HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access provides immediate viewing to many full-text books.
