Welcome back, Hoosiers! We hope the new year and new semester find you ready to explore! We’ve got several events planned in January that will introduce you to libraries, collections, and resources you can use to kick off your Spring 2022 on a high note.
Resolve to explore IU Libraries this year!
Guided Tours of the Lilly Library
Join us every Friday (January 7 through May 6) for a free tour of the newly-renovated Lilly Library, including stunning new murals in the Reading Room.
You’ll visit the Lilly’s main galleries, some of the classrooms, and the Reading Room where you’ll marvel at the new murals completed by artist Ralph Gilbert. Your expert guide will talk about some of the highlights of current exhibitions including the Gutenberg Bible, John James Audubon’s Birds of America, beautiful medieval manuscripts, and the First Folio of Shakespeare’s plays.
Non-flash photography is permitted, seating is available throughout the tour, and the building is wheelchair accessible. The tour generally lasts a little less than one hour and is open to all. No registration required – just show up!
WHEN: Fridays from January 7 through May 6, 2:00-3:00pm
WHERE: Lilly Library, 1200 E. Seventh Street (meet in the Main Gallery)
Secrets of the Stacks: Wells Library Tour
Visit the Herman B Wells Library to discover opportunities and resources available to students, including new, dynamic, technology-rich spaces such as the Learning Commons and Scholars’ Commons. Led by a faculty librarian, these tours reveal over two centuries of collections building to support research, innovation, and creative discovery.
Introduction to Library Research
Stop by for a librarian’s tour of some of the many research tools the libraries have to offer, including our catalog (IUCAT), online databases, and collections for your research. This is a great first stop if you are new to the libraries, as the presenter is a reference librarian who can further refer you to more assistance in your subject area or interest. Even if you’re not new, we bet you’ll learn a resource or tool you didn’t already know!
This workshop is available online or in person (registration required; select the day of your choice to register for that session):
We have even more workshops and events planned for the spring semester.
Keep checking back for new additions!
