Indiana University Libraries provides several options for curating, managing, and making discoverable digitized image-based collections held by archives, libraries, and cultural heritage/memory institutions affiliated with Indiana University. Digital Collections Services staff will work with collection managers in identifying the appropriate repository service:
- Digital Collections
- Image Collections Online
- Pages Online
- Books/Serials, selected from IU's general collection and available through IUCAT
What do I need to get started?
- A collection of photographs or other image- and text-based materials (including born-digital images) that your unit has the rights to make publicly available.
- Metadata, or the ability to create metadata. If you have metadata already stored in a digital format (spreadsheet or database) we may be able to help you export the metadata for the appropriate repository service.
- Time, dedication, and stamina. It takes a lot of time and effort to catalog image-based collections!
- Funding may be necessary depending on the size and scope of the collection and the complexity of the metadata to be applied to the images.
- If your unit is interested in digitizing an image-based collection or making existing digitized or born-digital images available for online discovery, please contact Digital Collections Services.
