Policy

In order to accommodate full-time faculty access to electronic databases at IU campuses other than the faculty member's home all full time Indiana University faculty can apply for temporary Adjunct Faculty/Visiting Scholar Status at any of the Indiana University campuses. This policy allows access to databases in support of faculty research. This status will allow faculty remote access to the electronic databases of another campus. The policy will only apply to full time faculty. Adjunct faculty, undergraduate and graduate students are not included.

Process to Request Access for Research Purposes

1. Faculty requesting this status should contact the office of Vice Chancellor/Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at their home campus.

2. Applicants should include in their request a letter of recommendation from their dean, a statement outlining the scope of their research project and a listing of the databases to which they require access to conduct the research.

3. The office of the Vice Chancellor/Vice Provost for Academic Affairs will contact the appropriate administrator(s) on the campus at which the faculty member has requested Adjunct Faculty/Visiting Scholar status.

4. The appropriate host administrator will complete the process by securing an adjunct appointment for the requesting faculty member and notifying the nominating vice chancellor, and the appropriate library and IT administrators and staff of the new appointment.  The duration for Adjunct Faculty/Visiting Scholar Status may be extended for a maximum of three years and is renewable for three additional years upon request. A new application is required at the end of six years.

Faculty, adjunct faculty, and graduate students requiring access to resources from another campus for educational purposes should see policy “Electronic Resources at Other Campuses.”
