The Optometry Library has permanently closed
Together, IU Libraries and the School of Optometry recognize shifting modes of access to library services among Optometry faculty and students, away from physical collections towards electronic access to content. The Optometry Library Branch in its physical form will consequently close, effective immediately, returning the space to the School, while the IU Libraries will continue to acquire Optometry materials in both physical and electronic formats and to provide specialized support through in-person and digital means. Librarian Amy Minix will continue as the subject specialist to the School of Optometry. Information about major library services is below. Please be in contact with us for any questions you may have.
Books: All new books acquired for the School will be housed in the Wells Library while older materials will either be placed in the Wells Library or the Auxiliary Library Facility. IUCAT will continue to serve as the finding aid for book and video material. As books and other materials are relocated, please reach out to Amy Minix if you need help acquiring an item. Interlibrary Loan services remain available for items not available in the IU Libraries.
E-journals and Optometry-related search tools: These may be accessed through the Libraries’ website. The Optometry Library Guide serves as a launch point for relevant indices and content. The Sciences Library in the Chemistry Building is home to the Sciences Librarians, including Amy Minix, and provides services to the School of Optometry. Services: Amy Minix, with colleagues, is available by appointment, email, or phone to help with research and learning needs. She may help with: generating search terms, locating relevant research, purchasing materials, amplifying your impact by generating bibliometrics data on publications, and supporting teaching and learning by providing instruction to students on how to access and maximize library resources.
Course Reserves: At this time, please be in contact with Amy Minix as soon as you recognize the need for course-based content.
Delivery: Faculty and graduate students with secure mailboxes are encouraged to sign up for office delivery service so that physical library materials may route directly to them via campus mail. Please direct inquiries to Jen Simms, Head of Sciences, IU Libraries.
