Please visit the newly renovated space on the ground floor of the Wells Library. The Moving Image Collections and Archives (MICA) is the home of the Black Film Center/ Archive, the IU Libraries’ Moving Image Archive, and the Libraries’ Media Services. The renovation began in January 2016 and was mostly completed in summer 2016. The new space offers access to the Media Services collections including the Video Browsing Collection and the Research and Teaching Collection, 4 learning practice labs, study space, media viewing technology (past and present), and the Libraries' state-of-the-art 40 person Screening Room.
Saved from a dumpster: 1980s AIDS history
Local news WSJV archive footage was saved from the dumpster thanks to a partnership effort with IU Libraries. Student employee Katie Morrison discovered it contained valuable, local footage of Ryan White's struggle with AIDS in the 1980s. Rachael Stoeltje, Director of the IU Libraries Moving Image Archive, tells the story.
