About
As Head of Serials Cataloging, Miriam Nauenburg coordinates the activities of the team responsible for cataloging serials for IU Libraries, including periodicals, newspapers, annual reports, directories, and other similar reference works. She serves as the institutional liaison to the Program for Cooperative Cataloging’s Cooperative Online Serials Program (CONSER), a national program in which catalogers work together to create and maintain high-quality serial bibliographic records and develop serials cataloging standards. She also coordinates IU Libraries' participation in cooperative initiatives such as the CONSER Open Access Journal Project and the Big Ten Academic Alliance Library Initiative's Cooperative Cataloging Partnership.
Miriam’s research interests include multiscript cataloging, serials control and holdings transcription, and the interoperability of MFHD and KBART encoding practices in serials cataloging. Her presentations include topics such as collection inventory management, serials reporting, batch processing, and migration data cleanup.
Miriam is active in the American Library Association (ALA) and its metadata and collections division, Core. As co-chair of the ALA Core Continuing Education Coordination Committee Webinar Production Subcommittee, she collaborates with national colleagues to deliver Core continuing education webinars. She also serves on the Core Technical Services and Systems Committee, which studies and evaluates procedures and issues relating to the management of technical services systems.
Prior to joining IU Libraries in 2025, Miriam worked at the University of West Georgia, where she cataloged serials and electronic resources for 15 years and served as a UWG institutional lead for the University System of Georgia’s implementation of the Alma Library Services Platform (LSP) in 2017. She holds a Master of Library and Information Science degree from Wayne State University.
