About
As Director of Research Data Services, Mikala Narlock leads strategic initiatives for research data management across IU campuses. In this role, she coordinates with key stakeholders, including the Research Data Commons, to implement comprehensive data services that meet the research and learning needs of faculty, staff, and students.
Prior to joining IU as the Director of Research Data Services, Mikala was the Director of the Data Curation Network, based at the University of Minnesota Libraries. In that role, she advocated for data curation and open scholarship while ensuring the DCN developed in a responsive and sustainable manner. She previously worked as the Digital Collections Strategy Librarian at the University of Notre Dame, where she managed digitization efforts and oversaw the development of two open source digital repositories.
Mikala's research interests include research data retention and preservation and Slow Librarianship. She is active in many professional societies, including the Research Data Alliance, and a member of the Data Rescue Project Steering Committee.
Mikala began her career in libraries via archives and historical societies. She earned her M.L.S. through IU, with a concentration in Archives and Records Management, and her Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Humanities from the University of San Diego.
