Laikin is the Sound Recordings Cataloging Librarian at Cook Music Library. Her primary duties include bibliographic and archival description of all audiovisual and sound recording materials held by the Music Library as well as creating and maintaining all descriptive metadata for the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music performance recordings. She also catalogs all music materials in Slavic and Eastern European languages.

Laikin's main areas of interest in her research are inclusive description in bibliographic and name authority records as well as issues related to responsible description of former Soviet countries' creators and their music materials. Laikin has presented internationally on her archival description of Soviet punk music and has published and presented on representing Indiana University Jacobs School of Music performers and composers respectfully and in ways that give them agency. In addition to her cataloging duties, she co-teaches ILS-Z655 Seminar in Music Librarianship for the Luddy School of Informatics, and supervises cataloging internships for music librarianship graduate students (ILS-Z605).

Prior to coming to Cook Music Library, Laikin worked as a student metadata assistant at University of North Texas Music Library while earning an M.L.S. in Library Science at UNT with a focus on Music Librarianship and a graduate certificate in Archival Management. In addition to her M.L.S., Laikin also holds a Master of Arts in Musicology and Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Georgia. Laikin received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Kentucky.
