Scholarly Communication is pleased to report that a scheduled upgrade of the IUScholarWorks repository is complete. The software has been successfully updated to the latest version, and the interface given a refreshed and up-to-date look: https://scholarworks.iu.edu/dspace.
Since 2012, the Indiana University Libraries have provided the IUScholarWorks service to make the work of IU scholars (faculty, students, and staff ) openly accessibly, while ensuring these resources are preserved and organized for the future. Items deposited in the repository receive a permanent URL so readers and other scholars will always find them. Our update to version 5.0 of the underlying DSpace software secures the stability of this resource and brings with it a number of improvements.
The most apparent changes are to the system interface, which has been overhauled to update the look and feel of the site and allowed for the integration of current IU branding. The system’s search engine has also been significantly redone, enabling better search and discovery within the application. Users will now be able to browse material through sidebar facets and categories, which dynamical reproduce according to specific user searches. New indexing features will also enhance the ranking of IUScholarWorks items in Google search results. Further enhancements to the user interface are planned for the new version.
To learn more about the repository software, you may find documentation for the 5.x release of DSpace at the DuraSpace Wiki. Updated information on IUScholarWorks and how IU faculty, staff, and researchers can use the service is available on our website. If you have any questions or comments about the update or our services, please email us at iusw@indiana.edu.
