IU Libraries Support Undergraduate Publishing through the IU Journal of Undergraduate Research

On June 1, 2015, the Indiana University Journal of Undergraduate Research (IUJUR) released its inaugural issue, available freely online at http://scholarworks.iu.edu/journals/index.php/iujur. An entirely student-run publication, it is the culmination of efforts between the journal’s student-led board, the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (OVPUE), and the IU Libraries.
The journal is hosted online by the Libraries as part of its open access journal publishing program, IUScholarWorks Journals. The Libraries provide the publication platform and technical support for the journal, in addition to advising on copyright, metadata, and preservation issues through workshops and consultations. IUJUR is one of five student-run publications hosted by IUScholarWorks Journals.
The collaboration with the IUJUR student board and OVPUE staff has led the Libraries to expand the scope of its publishing services. For example, IUScholarWorks Journals recently introduced a print-on-demand service in partnership with the IU Press based on a demonstrated need. The Libraries also worked with involved students to pilot a conference publishing program for the 20th Annual Indiana University Undergraduate Research Conference.
IUScholarWorks Journals is one of several initiatives within the IU Office of Scholarly Publishing, which aims to strengthen IU's central missions of scholarship and teaching and create a model of effective, sustainable 21st-century academic publishing.
