The Libraries' film collections are archival items primarily intended for reseach and scholarship. They do not circulate freely like books from the Libraries' open stacks. Access to the original film prints is limited to onsite viewings by faculty, students and independent researchers; or for exhibition in cinemas that maintain archival-level projection.

There are over 34,000 catalog records of IULMIA held titles in IUCAT, Indiana University Libraries’ online catalog. Most of the films in the IU Audio-Visual Center collection and the David Bradley collection are searchable in IUCAT. Records for other IULMIA collections are placed in IUCAT as they are processed and cataloged.

To search for a film or video in these catalog records:

  • Go to IUCAT.
  • Log in as a guest user or with your IU ID if you are affiliated with Indiana University.
  • To search only in the records of IULMIA, choose "Advanced Search," and select "IU Libraries Moving Image Archive" on the Collection drop-down menu on the right side of the screen. Or, use this link to search with these parameters already selected.

To search for titles that are in the process of being inventoried and cataloged, please email IULMIA at iulmia@indiana.edu or call (812) 855-2523.
