Sam Burgess Undergraduate Library Research Award: Faculty/Instructor Nomination

Students submitting their research paper or project for the Sam Burgess Undergraduate Library Research Award must request a nomination and letter of support from a faculty member or instructor. Learn more about the Burgess Award and the application process.

All applications (including final version of the research paper or project, with a bibliography or source list) and faculty nominations must be received by March 22, 2024.

    • Sophistication, originality and/or unusual depth or breadth in the use of library resources and collections in any format.
    • Effective application of information literacy and fluency principles:
      • Determining information needs;
      • Evaluating and analyzing information;
      • Managing, organizing, and synthesizing information;
      • Applying information in the context of the research paper or project;
      • Communicating information in formats appropriate to an academic audience;
      • Making responsible use of information by providing appropriate and accurate citations and credits.
      • Evidence of significant personal learning and an understanding of the process of research and inquiry.
