Dr. Venkataraman Raghavan (1908-1979) was a highly respected and prolific Sanskritist and Indian musicologist, particularly focusing on Carnatic music. Besides being a prolific scholarly writer, he also served on many scholarly committees and edited several journals, such as the Journal of Oriental Research and the Journal of the Music Academy, Madras. In 1953 he was awarded the Kane Gold Medal by the Asiatic Society, and in 1962 President Sri Rajendra Prasad gave him the Padma Bhushan award in the field of literature and education. For more information on Dr. Raghavan's work and achievements, click here.

The bibliography below represents a collection of materials donated to IU by Dr. William J. Jackson, Professor Emeritus of religious studies at IUPUI. Dr. Jackson published several books on South India, which can be found through IUCAT. All the materials donated concern Dr. V. Raghavan; most are either authored or contributed to by Raghavan, and the rest are about him and his work. Some of the works listed have already been added to IU's library collection and can be accessed through IUCAT. Others are in the process of being digitized or added as they are. Others cannot be added for copyright issues.
