IU Libraries provides digitization expertise and services to collection managers affiliated with archives, libraries, cultural heritage/memory institutions at Indiana University. We provide best-practices and workflows for the creation and management of preservation-quality digitization of multiple formats, including image, text, audio, and video.
Digitization Services has the capability to digitize many types of rare, delicate, or obsolete items to make them digitally available through various Libraries Services. Digitization Services perform preservation-quality digitization of analog and physical digital audio and video formats from IU collections as well as still image film, photographs, various 2D, and printed materials.
Digitization Services has expertise to advise IU units on a wide range of media preservation issues including quality control of digital files, identification and technical planning for rare and complicated formats, choosing external vendors, and developing grant proposals. We offer advice on appropriate hardware, software, and procedures for digital conversion and for management and migration of born-digital objects. As part of our assessment of candidates for digitization we advise on appropriate procedures for material handling and provide preservation recommendations for the physical items.
