Department
PreservationThe Preservation Department is responsible for the care of the collections of the Indiana University Libraries. Our work consists of preventive measures designed to protect collections from damage and deterioration, and hands-on treatment to stabilize, repair, conserve, and reformat damaged materials. We treat primarily book and paper-based materials in our conservation labs, but we also provide some services for collections in all physical formats, including environmental monitoring, disaster response, consultations, and enclosures. We also assist departments on the IU Bloomington campus with consultations, evaluation of environmental conditions, and disaster response.
