Our Divisions & Departments

Access Services is your point of contact for borrowing and use of Libraries materials. We handle issues such as bills and fines, interlibrary loan pickup, circulation, notification for overdues, recalls, and courtesy reminders of forthcoming overdues, request delivery, recalls, and renewals.

The Acquisitions Department is responsible for acquiring books, journals and electronic resources, including databases, digital collections and other non-print materials for the Libraries. We make sure you have the materials you need for your research journey.

The Office of the Dean manages the operations, finances, and employees of multiple libraries, archives, and other locations on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University. We promote student success and faculty research in all subject areas.

Our team is responsible for the transportation of materials and processing of records to prepare items for long term storage in the Auxiliary Library Facility on the Bloomington campus.

Our team at the Ruth Lilly Auxiliary Library Facility (ALF) protects and preserves materials from the Libraries' collections in a secure, climate-controlled repository to ensure their availability for researchers today and in the future.

Our team supports librarians and staff in all IU Libraries locations and departments on the Bloomington campus and includes Libraries Financial Services.

Our team keeps the Libraries' collections accessible for researchers through shelf preparation, database management, physical processing, and cataloging of materials.

As collection managers and subject specialists, our team selects materials that support the teaching and research mission of Indiana University in all academic disciplines.

Libraries Human Resources develops strategies and services to ensure the availability of highly motivated, well-qualified, and customer-oriented library staff and to sustain the professional excellence associated with the staff and operations of the Indiana University Libraries.

Our team develops and supports the IU Libraries website and other online tools for researchers and librarians.

Our develops and maintains the information technology systems that connect researchers to IU Libraries resources.

Our team provides technology support and administration for computer workstations, servers, and applications to support patron and staff productivity and access to library electronic resources.

The Moving Image Collections and Archives in the IU Bloomington Libraries is the home of the Black Film Center Archive, the IU Libraries' Moving Image Archive, and the Libraries' Media Services.

The Preservation Department is responsible for the care of the collections of the Indiana University Libraries. Our work consists of preventive measures designed to protect collections from damage and deterioration, and hands-on treatment to stabilize, repair, conserve, and reformat damaged materials. We treat primarily book and paper-based materials in our conservation labs, but we also provide some services for collections in all physical formats, including environmental monitoring, disaster response, consultations, and enclosures. We also assist departments on the IU Bloomington campus with consultations, evaluation of environmental conditions, and disaster response.

Our team manages software platforms that provide researchers will access to our digital collections.

The Scholarly Communication Department supports researchers in sharing and preserving the output of their scholarly work in all forms and at all stages in the research process.

Our team manages world-class collections and provides expert research support for students, faculty, and other researchers in the sciences and social sciences.

The IU Libraries Development team connects alumni and other friends of IU Libraries with opportunities to support student success, faculty excellence, collection acquisitions, and IU Libraries initiatives.

The Department of Teaching & Learning at IUB Libraries supports the acts of teaching and learning by collaborating with instructors and librarians to integrate information literacy across the curriculum.

Guided by a passion for excellence and good stewardship, the Technical Services Department works in partnership with others to acquire and provide access to research collections in all formats for users of the Indiana University Libraries.
