The IU Libraries' Chemistry Library closed temporarily at the end of fall semester, at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 15. It is expected to reopen by Fall 2018.
Renovations will include a classroom for library instruction, updated technology, improved study spaces, more space for programming, and more seating. We will rename the space as the Sciences Library upon reopening as the library now includes the collections of many scientific disciplines beyond chemistry.
Books and other physical materials
Physical materials will be available on the 10th floor of the East Tower of Wells Library by the end of January 2018. If you need anything from the physical collection while it is being moved, please contact Jen Laherty, Head of Sciences. As always, databases and electronic resources are available via the Chemistry subject guide and elsewhere on the Libraries' website.
Faculty and graduate students: If you typically have items delivered to the Chemistry Library from Interlibrary Loan or ALF, please consider signing up for office delivery if you are eligible. Otherwise, you will need to select a new delivery location when you place your next request. The Life Sciences Library in Jordan Hall is the closest to the Chemistry location; the Music Library and the Wells Library are also relatively near.
Faculty members: if you typically place items on reserve in the Chemistry Library, you will need to select a new location for spring and summer 2018. The Life Sciences Library and the Herman B Wells Library are good options. We are working with the Chemistry Undergraduate Office to transition items currently on reserve to the Life Sciences Library. More information on class reserves
Reference and research questions
Ask a librarian via instant message, text, phone, or email, or schedule a research consultation. Questions requiring specialized expertise will be referred to our librarians in the Sciences Department. Sciences librarians will also be available for drop-in consultations in the Wells Library Scholars' Commons on Tuesdays from 1:00-3:00 pm throughout the spring semester.
We look forward to our newly-renovated space and to providing continued excellent service to our students, faculty, staff, and researchers.
