About
As the Head of the Education Library, Christina Jones oversees library operations and manages the scholarly and children’s literature collections. In addition, Christina provides outreach experiences and instructional support to undergraduate and graduate programs at the School of Education.
Christina received her M.L.S. in Library and Information Science from Indiana University Bloomington in 2003, after receiving an M.S. in Secondary Education from the same institution. She was a Children's Services Librarian at the Monroe County Public Library (IN) for eighteen years in which she developed early literacy and cultural programming for the children and families in the community.
Her research interests reflect her commitment to teacher education and her desire to cultivate a love of reading and storytelling. A frequent collaborator with School of Education faculty, Christina contributed to an article "Playing in the Cracks: Imaginative Tactics for (Science of) Reading Classrooms" in the publication Language Arts with Drs. Karen Wohlwend, Sharon Daley, and Jill Scott. She is also the lead author on a contributed paper with Dr. Gus Weltsek and Outreach & Engagement Librarian Micaela Deogracias. Additionally, Christina teaches graduate courses in Collection Management and Storytelling for the Department of Information and Library Science in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering on the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses.
Christina is an active member in the Education and Behavioral Sciences Section (EBSS) of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). Notably, her time serving as Vice-Chair and Co-Chair of the Instruction for Educators (IFE) Committee led to some impactful scholarship relevant to academic librarians serving teacher education programs. She helped to bring the Companion Document to the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education: Instruction for Educators to fruition and continues to adapt the document to current instructional practices in teacher education. Her work with the IFE committee is further exemplified in a 2025 chapter entitled "Educating the educators: Six frames for three identities," included in an edited volume, Teaching Information Literacy by Discipline, edited by Scott Libson and Malia Willey and published by the Association of College and Research Libraries.
Christina is inspired by the vibrant communities in Monroe County and the IU Bloomington campus. She shares books and stories with local elementary school children at the Education Library and in area classrooms in her capacity as the Education Librarian. In addition, Christina is a longtime member of the Bloomington Storytellers Guild—delighting listeners of all ages with folktales and fables from around the world. She is also dedicated to uplifting stories of Monroe County through her participation on the Board of the Monroe County History Center.
