As Associate Director of Development, Charlie Chamness works to help IU donors reach their philanthropic goals and meet the needs of the IU Libraries in the most meaningful and effective ways. He is active in annual, major, and planned giving for the Libraries, as well as in donor relations and stewardship. Charlie also collaborates closely with the Friends of the Lilly Library group to strengthen the group’s impact for the benefit of the Lilly Library. Before holding his current position, Charlie was Assistant Director of Development for the IU Libraries, following internships with both IU Libraries Development and the IU Foundation.
Charlie earned his BS in Public Affairs from Indiana University in 2015. During his time as a student at IU, Charlie was involved with the IU Student Foundation (IUSF), which raises money for working student scholarships; he was selected to be on the IUSF Steering Committee in his senior year and headed the Alumni Affairs Committee. Charlie was also a member of the Pi Chapter of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, where he served as Alumni Relations Chair on the Chapter’s executive team.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Charlie is active within the community. He has signed up to “go bald” five times with St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a nonprofit that raises money for pediatric cancer research by having volunteers shave their heads. He also currently serves as an alumni advisor for the Pi Chapter.
