Changes in Learning Commons Security: Don't Get Locked Out!

July 10th 2015
Beginning 7/20, Learning Commons doors will be locked from midnight-8 am. Current IUB ID card required to enter.

Starting on July 20th, 2015, the doors at both the North and South entrances to the Learning Commons will be locked between midnight and 8:00 a.m. in order to increase security. When the doors are locked, the Learning Commons will only be accessible to members of the IU community who have a current IUB identification card with a computer chip (commonly known as a “Smart Card”) in order to activate the doors. Anyone with only a magnetic strip on their identification card may replace it for free with a card that has a magnetic strip and a computer chip at Campus Card Services in Eigenmann Hall, Ground Level.

Smart Cards look similar to the previous iteration of IU identification cards, but can be recognized by the gray computer chip located in the center, lower section of the card between the 14 digit number and the expiration date. IU Libraries staff or campus partners with a need to access the West Tower after hours are encouraged to obtain an identification card with a computer chip. Signs at each entrance to the Learning Commons and throughout the space will alert patrons to this change starting July 6th, 2015.
