About

As the Lead System Architect in Library Technologies, Brian Wheeler designs and implements server infrastructure to provide a secure and reliable computing environment for the Libraries’ digital collections. Brian was also heavily involved with the Media Digitization and Preservation Initiative (MDPI) project, specifically transcoding and archival storage. Post-MDPI, he has explored ways to utilize AI to enrich the content that was digitized during the MDPI project.

With colleagues Hui Zhang, Mike Durbin, Jon Dunn, and Will Cowan, Wheeler co-authored “Faceted search for heterogeneous digital collections” in Proceedings of the 12th ACM/IEEE-CS Joint Conference on Digital Libraries (2012).

He has delivered presentations on his MDPI work to the Library of Congress (2023, 2018, 2016), IU Statewide IT (2021, 2017), HPSS User Forum (2019), CCAAA Joint Technical Symposium (2019), and the Audio Engineering Society Conference on Audio Archiving (2018).

He received his B.S. in Computer Science from IU Bloomington in 1995.
