Mr. George Wilson, on behalf of his father, the beloved George Macklin Wilson (1937-2014), Professor Emeritus of History and East Asian Languages and Cultures at IU, donated nineteen boxes of Professor Wilson’s collection on modern Japan to the East Asian Collection in late July 2016.
Professor George M. Wilson, a distinguished historian of modern Japan, also served at IU in other capacities—Dean of International Programs and Director of East Asian Studies Center (1987-2002) before he retired in 2002. In 2003, he was honored with the Order of the Rising Sun by the Japanese government, for his achievement in the fields of international relations and the promotion of Japanese culture.
