NEWSPAPERS
Moskovskie Novosti
This weekly paper was published from 1980-2008. Until its closure, the paper was known as pro-liberal and reformist.

Novaia Gazeta
This paper and its journalists have been targeted by the government due to its critical coverage. A number of journalists have been mysteriously killed just before or after publishing articles criticizing government activities. Despite danger to its journalists and financial troubles, the biweekly paper continues to be one of the more prominent opposition papers.

Novye Izvestiia
This daily has been published in Moscow since 1997. From 2000-2003, the paper published articles critical of Vladimir Putin. However, coverage has since become less critical after publication was suspended in 2003 and subsequently resumed.
