Join us for the Friday Finish!
Students, do you often end the weekend with the "Sunday Scaries" – worried about what you need to get done before Monday? Stave off those scaries by joining us on Fridays in the Wells Library: one place to make the grade!
Every Friday from February 3 until Spring Break (and then for one more Final Friday Finish of the semester on March 24), stop by from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to find your perfect study spot, research and assignment consultations, peer coaches, and academic advisors as well as always-available services like poster printing, Writing Tutorial Services, and the UITS Help Desk.
And of course we'll serve up supersized study breaks throughout the day! Donuts and coffee in the morning, pizza at 1:00, and a variety of special food bars at 3:00 will fuel your motivation for free. There'll be table tennis, yard games, and surprise guests. Wrap up your week and find that finish line with IU Libraries!
Undergrads: You could win $2000 for your research paper/project
Did you complete a great research paper or project in 2022, or do you know of an undergrad who did? The prestigious 2023 Sam Burgess Undergraduate Library Research Award is now open for applications! This year the IU Libraries will award two winners $2,000 each.
The Committee pays special attention to how the student used library resources to complete a project or paper as part of a class assignment. Along with the research project or paper as submitted for a grade in 2022, applicants submit a short essay describing their research strategy and how they used library resources. In addition, a faculty member submits a letter of recommendation for the student's work.
We are grateful to retired librarian Jo Burgess, the generous donor supporting this award.
The deadline to apply has been EXTENDED to Friday, March 24, 2023.
Celebrate Open Education
The IU Libraries Scholarly Communication Department welcomes nominations from all members of the Indiana University Bloomington community for its inaugural Open Educators Award! The award will be given to one or more instructors who use Open Educational Resources (OER) in their course(s). We want to recognize and celebrate instructors who are making their course materials as accessible as possible, advancing equity via cost savings for students, and enhancing student learning. Awardee(s) will receive a monetary award. Deadline: March 17.
Of related interest: Join us on Wednesday, April 5, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. to learn about open course material options, including free resources that you can edit and enhance. The Open Education Week 2023 Showcase will be an opportunity to hear from instructors who have adopted open and affordable materials and learn more about how students received their new materials, along with a keynote by Amanda Hurford. Register for this event now.
