Jazz giants Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Indiana University alumnus Hoagy Carmichael have a small record company in Richmond, Indiana to thank for their careers. With help from IU faculty and IU Libraries' Archives of Traditional Music, a new documentary from WTIU tells the rich story of Gennett Records.
IU Libraries Annual Report
Three library fires - in 1854, 1883, and 1969 - did not daunt us. Through wars, recessions, and the birth of the internet, we have collected and protected a legacy of knowledge. Our Annual Report offers six stories organized around our strategic plan.
Fierman Newspaper Archive to be microfilmed
Dr. Akram Habibulla, IU Librarian for Middle Eastern, Islamic, and Central Eurasian Studies, assisted in finding a more permanent home for the collection. He immediately recognized its value - particularly pertaining to issues from the early 1990s, saying, "This was the period when the Soviet Union collapsed, and all networks were destroyed. American libraries couldn't get anything from Central Asia. So the newspapers that Fierman donated are unique."
