Safer Together: An Archival Remix Contest
From 2018-2022, the City of Bloomington recorded over 400 reported collisions involving bikes or pedestrians (including scooters). That's too many!
IU Libraries Moving Image Archive invites YOU to create a short, compelling video using archival footage to raise awareness about street safety. Through a juried competition, awarded videos that meet contest criteria will win a prize of up to $2,000! Runner(s)-up will receive $500. Winning videos will be used in various IU ad campaigns starting in Fall 2023.
You don't have to be a Hollywood director, but you do have to be a student enrolled (full time or part time) at IU Bloomington.
You'll want to get started soon - the deadline is Sunday, May 21, 2023!

Celebrate Open Education
The IU Libraries Scholarly Communication Department congratulates Dr. Michelle Facos, our first Open Educator Awardee! A Professor of Art History and Adjunct Professor in Jewish Studies and the Russian and East European Institute at IU, Dr. Facos has been using openly licensed videos and digital resources in her art history courses for over a decade. Her commitment to using free resources has saved students thousands of dollars over the years as well as improving student learning and engagement.
Dr. Facos will be recognized at the Open Education Week 2023 Showcase on Wednesday, April 5, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Plan to join us that day to learn about open course material options, including free resources that you can edit and enhance, along with a talk from Amanda Hurford (Scholarly Communications Director at the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana) about large-scale open education efforts in Indiana. Register for this event now.

Read all about it: Library blogs
While IU Libraries has been publishing blogs for years, we recently updated our blog interface to modernize it and make it easier to explore. Here you can find posts from libraries and departments including the Lilly Library, University Archives, Media Services, Craig Preservation Lab, Scholarly Communication, and more. Librarians and staff (including student employees), along with occasional guest authors, share information on topics of interest, often related to current events or exhibitions on display.
Recent posts include a "behind the scenes" look at the Lilly Library's Flora + Fauna exhibition, guest posts from IU English professor Michael Adams about lexicography and slang, a series of reflections from the Midwest Indigenous Cartography project, posts celebrating Women's History Month and National Disability Awareness Month, and a fascinating series from the Archives exploring "1930s Segregated Student Teaching and the IU Alumni Who Persevered."
We're sure you'll find something to spark your interest!
