IU Libraries' Wylie House Museum is introducing a new tradition to the Bloomington holiday season this year with Garlands & Greenery.
Community members are invited to enjoy festive tours of the historic home of IU’s first president, Andrew Wylie. The house will be decorated with fresh greenery for the winter holidays, and guests will be taken on guided tours by museum staff who will share the history of holidays in the Wylie House and 19th century Bloomington. Tours are free and will be offered from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily from December 7 to 10 and from December 14 to 17.
The Garlands & Greenery festivities will culminate with Family Day on Saturday, December 10. Tours will be offered from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and additionally, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. guests of all ages are invited to enjoy family-friendly crafts, holiday cookies, and musical and singing performances, including Dickens Carolers.
In 2022, Garlands & Greenery replaces the Wylie By Candlelight celebrations of past years. The holiday open house events were cancelled due to Covid in 2020 and 2021. Prior to the pandemic, Wylie By Candlelight had become so popular that it was difficult for museum staff to accommodate all the guests in a single evening event. Garlands & Greenery offers more opportunities for community members to celebrate the holidays at the museum and allows staff to provide more intimate and in-depth tours to guests, including upper floors previously closed off during festivities.
Wylie House Museum is located just off campus at 307 E. Second Street. Information about visiting and parking can be found on the museum website.
